Emotion and Expectation

Dear Readers,

We have received several comments and emails on short term and long term investment, portfolio size and shape. During analysing the portfolios we found that most of them contains several stocks with low quantities and poor allocation. Below are some examples to realign the portfolio to ensure the gain.

Initially need to keep the portfolio concentrated for example 100K investment allocated for 4 stocks with 25% allocation in each.

Now question comes that which shocks are most suitable?

Even though most of the stocks can give return around 300 -500% in 3-4 years, still it is observed in last 4-5 months that most of the new investors lose patience within 3-4 months if there stocks are in red. It happened due to little bit higher buying price and some market correction. I always try to suggest the stock at minimum price from where chance of further fall is very less and minimum risk on investment.

I have made small change in our strategy and posted last three stocks with price above 100 rupees. These companies are well grown and near to make good turnaround in short term (within year). Same time I have replied to several comments to buy seasonal stocks at lower level which are able to give 30 -35% profit in coming quarters.

It is all to bring red portfolio into green. It will also help to maintain the motivation of new investors. But all these steps need to be taken timely to capitalize the gain.

Why we will go for concentrated portfolio with 25% allocation in each stock?

For example: X company stock bought @ Rs. 25 and total 1000 shares bought for 25% allocation in the portfolio. If investor will sell 250 share with 30 -35% gain than his buying price will come down to Rs.18. Even after selling 250 shares, allocation per stock still stand at 20% of portfolio. Same time he has cash to invest in new stock which has good fundamental and trading at lower level.

First aim to make the entire stock holding free of cost with 100% profit than it is very easy to hold the remaining 50% free shares for long term and reinvest principal amount to expand the portfolio again.

Which are the stocks good for short term as well as for long term and long term only?

1) These companies are already grown up and very near to give good gain. Investment in these companies are very good short term as well as for long term. It may be seasonal ( Insecticide, Waterbase, JK Agri, DTIL) or situational ( TCI, TIIL, Talbros Auto)

2) These companies are in the growth phase and it will take 2-3 years to show significant change in profit. Investment in these companies are very good for long term only (Donear, Kothari Petro, Surana Solar, KIL). These companies currently trading at lower level but able give more than expected gain in long term.

Conclusion

Above examples are given to achieve the first target 100% gain, it is just split of our main target into two part, first need make investment free of cost than hold the remaining for long term to get gain of 300 -500%. Need to keep balanced portfolio by giving 75 % allocation to the grown stocks which can give good return in 1-2 years and 25 % to the stocks which will give return in 3-4 years. Above approach is specially good for those new investors who are in initial stage of their portfolio formation.

Always try to add stocks at lower level during market correction and need to keep emotion and expectation in control during rise and fall of market. These are most important factors that ensure the success in stock market.

  1. Dolly madam, thank you very much for giving us guidance and motivation.

Recently you have bought huge quantity of EMKAY GLOBAL FINANCIAL SERVICES shares. I come to know from share holding pattern in money control. Company has given turnaround performance after many years and declared dividend twice. Stock is still trading at lower level and much undervalued as compared to its peers. I have bought some shares and want to add more, please give your valuable advise on company and promoters.

  8. Thanks Mam. These are the questions that is really all new investors has. This is really helpful. One question, on your example of buying 1000 shares at 25 and selling 250 at 30-35% and effective price of remaining stocks. It would be 22 not 18. Is it a typo or my understanding is incorrect. Thanks in advance for clarification.

In other words reinvestment of 8450 is free of cost on our total investment of 25000

Today Talbros Automotive Components released Q4 results. The results came out bad. Net profit for QoQ decreased almost 50% and YoY decreased almost 40%. I expected the results to come out well as other peers in auto ancillary sector are posting good results but it was opposite. I am already invested 10% of my portfolio near to ur suggested price. I am expecting there might be some correction due to these results. I am thinking to accumulate if it goes below 100 and increase my allocation percentage or should I wait and buy before Q1 2016 results. Your valuable views please.
    Thank you Mam.

Expectation- After buying any stock we start over expecting huge gain from very next day.

These are common feeling of most of the investors.

we have to keep our feelings and expectations in control by simple logical thinking. It will give us the reason to hold the stock for certain period and profit.

Several people bought Talbros Auto with very short term target and over-expectation from Q4 or FY 15-16 results. But results was not as per the expectations and it resultsed in sell off with loss.

    1. Sure you will get one XPS share for every two TCI share. Company will announce the record date on approval of demerger scheme by High Court (June 6 is hearing date given by court)

  90. Hello Madam,

Just curious that, once the TCI demerger happens. What do you think the TCI share price will fall to? What value do you think the XPS will get listed with.?

Surana solars management quality is avery big concern, many ace investors said that promoters of the companys quality is very very bad..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why?

Just need to ask that ace investors to calculate last 10-12 year compounded gain of Bhagyanagar India. Surana Solar is also demerged entity of Bhagyanagar India.

How many solar mfg companies are giving continuous positive results, paying dividend and their debt service ability?

  95. Hi mam. Wb corrects from 176 to only 70. But it posts q3 loss due to flood. Is there any fundamental issue with this company? Thanks.

    1. No issue with fundamentals of the company. Only need to buy it at lower level for good gain in coming quarters.

  96. Hi mam,
How much correction is possible for surana solar from current level?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Very less chance of further correction below 20. Some investors bought it with short term target and expecting major turnaround from Q4 results but results were not as per their expectations and it resulted in sell off with loss.

It has created very good opportunity for long term investors to add at lower level.

  97. Maam,

Waterbase has a quite lower market cap than Avanti. Is that the only reason it can grow faster than Avanti. Because P/E ratio of WB is higher. Please let me know what factors make you more bullish on WB compared to Avanti.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Ma'am ..As per you I should sell WaterBase around Rs 110...if bought around Rs75...(25-30% till september).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It depends upon you holding period and gain expectation. It can easily give much better gain in next 1-2 years. Now it is trading at good buying level and any correction below 70 should be taken as opportunity to add more.

  106. Hi mam. Can we say the results of wb & surana 'OK' or 'bad'. To me it's OK. Wb starts operation for 2 month in q4. And if the inventory gets consumed then q1 or q2 may excellent for surana. YOUR Valuable comments mam.

  107. Increase in stocks what is that and it is positive as per my reading am I right again if that figure is Negative than what is impact on profit please explain in simple words

  108. Dolly Mam, today waterbase came back very strongly. Its upward journey started with a bang. I hope this blog followers will be very happy with this move. Also Court Convened Meeting regarding merger of Pinnae Feeds will be held on June 08, 2016. I hope the bad time is over for Waterbase as of now. I feel Waterbase can reach your target (30% in 3 months) with in 1 month if the markets are stable. I feel its better to hold this Gem for 2-3 years instead of profit booking strategy what you mentioned recently as we might miss the opportunity of gaining more profits due to profit booking. Your valuable views please.
